Fresh off a teaser trailer, we’ve finally got a longer look at Darren Aronofsky’s new psychological thriller, mother!. Jennifer Lawrence stars alongside Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in a film light on details but heavy on the terrifying and trippy imagery.
Our only plot clue is that a couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. The trailer is certainly terrifying - no surprise from the man that brought us Requiem For a Dream and Black Swan. Lawrence’s protagonist seems downright giddy in her love nest with Javier Bardem, that is until guests arrive at their front door and things becoming increasingly creepy as Lawrence finds blood on the carpet and weird-looking strangers traipsing through her front yard. Are these intense images meant to be real or imagined? Is Lawrence being trapped or paranoid? Are her guests literally guests from hell??
We can all find out when mother! hits theaters on September 15.
