‘The Odd Couple’ Reboot Gets Pilot Order

CBS has picked up a reboot of The Odd Couple, headlined by Friends alum Matthew Perry. Perry is heavily involved in the show, writing the pilot with Joe Keenan as well as executive producing and starring as Oscar Madison.

The reboot is one of many incarnations of the play by Neil Simon about two roommates, the uptight Felix Ungar and the easygoing Oscar Madison. Besides the Broadway production, there was the film starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in 1968 and a television series starring Jack Klugman and Tony Randall that ran from 1970-1975.

The pilot also marks Perry’s return to the multicamera format. His previous short-lived comedies, Go On and Mr. Sunshine, were single-camera.
