Netflix, primarily a streaming service, is fairly unconventional when it comes to its original programming. It refuses to release any statistics on how many people are watching their shows, not even the cast and crew. It prefers to release its original programming seasons in one go, encouraging viewers to binge-watch each season.
In continuing that unconventional trend, Orange is the New Black (OITNB) announced its season three renewal via Laura Prepon's Instagram account. Prepon, who plays Alex Vause on the show set in a women's prison, posted a photo of a whiteboard with season three titles listed on it with the caption "It's official!! Season 3!! #oitnb #alexvause #backtothebighouse". Netflix's only comment on the photo was that "this is how we're making it official."
OITNB's entire second season premieres on Netflix on Friday, June 6, 2014.
