Though he no longer works in the commercial space, artist Jay Maisel is a visionary that has shaped the way we see art. In February 2015 he decided, after forty-eight years, to sell his home - a 36,000 square-foot building in Manhattan known as “the Bank.” The decision wasn’t an easy one, and thankfully filmmaker and photographer Stephen Wilkes was there to capture the remarkable end to an unprecedented era.
Jay Myself, which offers an intimate look at Maisel and his extraordinary life and career, has been a festival favorite for much of the last twelve months. Distributor Oscilloscope just released a trailer for the highly regarded documentary, and the buzz appears to be well earned.
Personal and in-depth, the film looks to hold nothing back as it shines a light on a remarkable man as he attempts to best deal with the vast amount of change that is inhabiting the space around him.
Jay Myself will get a national rollout beginning July 31 in New York City.
