Sundance Review: Hello I Must Be Going

Score:B

Director:Todd Louiso

Cast:Melanie Lynskey, Blythe Danner, Christopher Abbott

Running Time:95.00

Rated:NR

It just wouldn't be Sundance without a quirky indie romance, and Hello I Must Be Going may be the one to beat this year. Featuring an adorable Melanie Lynskey and Blythe Danner in top form, the film is infectious, moving and totally lovable.

There's hardly a fake moment in the film, which alone helps it qualify as a great romance for me. Blythe Danner's character is perfectly written, with a touch of both that motherly condescension and genuine care. The chemistry between the leads, both of which are hugely charismatic, is authentic and my only complaint is that they don't seem to share enough screen time. Although the film is about their relationship, it isn't exclusively and the segments with the parents are fun but simply not as satisfying by the end of the film.

All in all, there's not a lot to complain about with Hello I Must Be Going. The comedy works, the romance works, the drama works. It all works here and, what's more, it all works well.

Hello I Must Be Going is competing in the US Dramatic Competition.
