Watch Colin Firth in New “Genius” Trailer

Acclaimed Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage makes his feature film debut with Lionsgate and Roadside Attraction’s Genius, an account of editor Max Perkins (Colin Firth) experiences with legendary writer Thomas Wolfe.

For those out of the loop, Wolfe (Jude Law) was an American novelist who revolutionized literature in the early 20th Century, ultimately leading to the beat movement. The film chronicles the working friendship between Wolfe and Perkins, as well as the hardships they put on their respective families.

Judging by the trailer, Genius evokes the same style as other dramatic period pieces such as Pride and Prejudice and Far From the Madding Crowd. It’s colored with splashes of browns and grays, helping to create a moody atmosphere that at times can elevate the film’s message.

Genius is stacked with Oscar caliber talent as Nicole Kidman, Laura Linney, Dominic West and Guy Pearce join Firth and Law in the film. And while the story appears to boast a tremendous amount of Oscar eye candy a June 10th release date has to make you wonder if it will live up to expectations and stay on the minds of those that matter come award season.
