“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” First Trailer Arrives

Last year Disney announced that we, the fans, would be getting a special Christmas gift every year in the form of a new Star Wars film. Making good on that promise, following up last year’s ridiculously successful Episode XII, the studio has just given us an amazing teaser trailer to this year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Based on the information we gather from the trailer, Rogue One takes place between Episodes III and IV and will involve the rebels plan to steal the plans for the ‘still-being-built’ Death Star. We have a fantastic new lead in Jyn Eros, played by the extremely talented Felicity Jones, and a handful of superb supporting players in the form of Mads Mikkelson, Alan Tudyk, Donnie yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna and Genevieve O’Reilly.

This film is an exceptionally important moment for the franchise as it will be the first film that is expanding outside of the episodic installments. The success of Rogue One, which looks just as amazing as Episode VII, will have impacts on the future Young Han Solo film, the rumored Boba Fett film, and the hotly rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy, which Ewan McGregor has openly stated he would love to return for.

There are still plenty of questions that this teaser has already provided. Who is Jyn Eros? How soon after Episode III does this take place? Was that Darth Vader in the black cloak? We’ve already seen Stormtroopers and AT-ATs, but will any of the heroes (or villains) be wielding lightsabers? Will we see the Emperor or Alderran?

The most important question for the studio lies in whether Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will bring in as much money as Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Though that feat seems highly unlikely, that is something to be talked about later on this year. But rest assured, Star Wars in any way shape or form will be cause for a box office boom.
