“The Painted Bird” Lands at IFC Films

Venice Film Festival selection The Painted Bird has been acquired by IFC Films. Directed, written, and produced by Vaclav Marhoul and based on the novel by Jerzy Kosinski, the film is Czech Republic’s Oscar selection.

IFC Films has acquired the U.S. rights to the film, which depicts Eastern Europe in black and white at the close of World War II.  In it, we follow The Boy, entrusted by his persecuted parents to an elderly foster mother. When his elderly caretaker dies, The Boy wanders from village to village, observing the brutality of a war-ravaged country. It stars Stellan Skarsgard, Harvey Keitel, Udo Kier, Julian Sands, Barry Pepper, and Petr Kotlar as The Boy.

“IFC Films is committed to providing thought-provoking and challenging films, and this is a prime example of maintaining this core mission and continuing our legacy for nearly 20 years now,” said Lisa Schwartz, Co-President of IFC Films.

The film will be released in theaters in 2020.
