First Look at Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins

Mere weeks before the release of Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast, the studio is already looking ahead to its next revival film — Mary Poppins Returns. Currently in production, the film released a first look at Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt in the title role, taking over from Hollywood legend Julie Andrews.

Decked out in a pink hat, smart blue coat and her trusty bag, this profile shot of Ms. Poppins is just the right amount of tease.

Mary Poppins Returns is set in 1930s depression-era London and primarily comes from PL Travers’ additional seven books. In this story, Banks children Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up and live with Michael’s three children and their housekeeper Ellen (Julie Walters). After tragedy strikes, Mary Poppins returns to help the family rediscover joy along with friendly street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda). Meryl Streep will also appear in the film as Topsy, Mary Poppins’ eccentric cousin.

Mary Poppins Returns will be released in theaters on December 25, 2018.
