Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne Reunite in “The Aeronauts”

After teaming up in the award-winning The Theory of Everything, Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne will reunite in the upcoming Amazon Studios film The Aeronauts.

The studio recently announced that principal photography has begun on the film, and has released a first-look image of the pair. The Aeronauts is directed by BAFTA nominee Tom Harper (War & Peace, Peaky Blinders) and written by BAFTA winner Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). Set in 1862, the film follows wealthy young widow Amelia Wren (Jones) and ambitious scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) as they begin a balloon expedition to fly higher than anyone in history.

In the first still, we see Redmayne and Jones in a hot air balloon, high above an idyllic countryside. According to producer Todd Lieberman, they are dedicated to filming as many scenes as possible in an actual hot air balloon in flight. The image of Redmayne and Jones was taken 2,000 feet in the air and captured from a helicopter, with the pair dedicated to doing their own stunts.

If the first image and their track record is anything to go on, The Aeronauts looks to be gunning for a spot come awards season. A release date has not yet been announced.
