“Audrie & Daisy” Trailer Exposes the Dark Side of Social Media

Today’s teenagers have known social media for as long as they can remember. With so many channels to talk to one another, teens are more connected than ever. And as the trailer for Audrie & Daisy shows us, that’s not always a good thing.

Audrie & Daisy is a documentary about the effects on two underage young women after sexual crimes against them are caught on camera. The resulting noise reverberates through their families, friends, school, and communities and even garners national attention. Filmmakers Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk capture the chaos as these girls become sucked into a whirlwind of social media bullying.

The documentary, which originally premiered at Sundance, seems to explore multiple issues – from social media bullying to sexual assault to the pointing fingers and assigning blame (and how that can be incredibly gendered). The bleak film is sure to hit home with parents and teenagers alike.

Watch the trailer below and see Audrie & Daisy on Netflix and in theaters beginning September 23.
