Rarely in this industry am I ever surprised. A good film is a good film, and most that aren’t you can see the writing on the way a few months out.
But every now and then you get a Hotel Mumbai.
The film, which chronicles the chaotic and terrorizing attacks on the famed Taj Hotel in Mumbai, India in 2008, is a genuinely remarkable achievement as it focuses in on the true story of humanity and heroism that exists when survival is on the line. And though many will write it off as a typical action film detailing a conflict overseas, Hotel Mumbai proves to be so much more.
I had the privilege of attending the world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, walking away both impressed and affected - a rarity these days. Starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, and Jason Isaacs, the film is moving and emotionally charged as you search for a breath during the gunfire and room-by-room search that ensues.
The film’s first trailer wholly encompasses these traits, giving you merely a tease of the experience that awaits you inside the movie theater.
Bleeker Street is the studio fortunate enough to release this mesmerizing film, setting a March 22 release date. Run, don’t walk - this film is worthy of any and all hype.
