12 Rounds

score:
C+
Director:
Renny Harlin
Cast:
John Cena, Steve Harris, Ashley Scott, Aidan Gillen
Running Time:
108
Rated:
PG-13
Author(s):
Carrying the tough-guy persona that propelled him to WWF greatness, John Cena gives a surprisingly strong performance in the action adventure film 12 Rounds. Directed by veteran filmmaker Renny Harlin, the feature is much stronger than expected as it entertains audiences with an interesting concept and a whole lot of action. And while the story is slightly lacking and the repetitive formula gives cause for doubt, I can honestly say that I left the theater in a state of shock, incidentally enjoying my time in front of the screen.

I Love You, Man

Featuring an unprecedented cast of comedic actors, as well as some up and coming talent, I Love You, Man came to the big screen amidst a lot of hype and expectation. Luckily for fans, much like their other films, the lead guys work their comedic magic, creating one of the most complete, and irresistibly funny film to hit theaters thus far in 2009!

Knowing

score:
C-
Director:
Alex Proyas
Cast:
Nicolas Cage, Rose Byrne, Chandler Canterbury, Ben Mendelsohn
Running Time:
115
Rated:
PG-13
Author(s):
Beginning with a story setter and fast forwarding to present day, Alex Proyas' Knowing is one of global proportions. The film, which follows Professor John Koestler and his surge for understanding, features some of the most riviting special effects to hit the big screen since 2004's The Day After Tomorrow. However, unlike the great films before it, Knowing never takes advantage of its strengths, relying heavily on its acting and story, ultimately falling by the waist side as a result.

Race to Witch Mountain

C
Director:
Andy Fickman
Cast:

Running Time:
99
Rated:
PG-13
Author(s):
Loosely based on the 1975 hit Escape to Witch Mountain, Race to Witch Mountain is a non-stop action film that should have the entire family in high spirits. However, due to a run of lackluster dialogue and elementary actions, the film is never able to infiltrate its audience, becoming a somewhat disappointment by story's end.

However, soon after they begin their trek through the mountains of Hawaii, a double murder is discovered on the island. Should they leave? Should they press on? Or should they sit and wait it out? Those, and a whole lot of other pressing questions, help give David N. Twohy's A Perfect Getaway a much needed 'unknown' factor, creating intensity and animosity amongst all who impatiently look on.
