Sex and the City

Casting The CW's 'The Carrie Diaries'

For anyone who saw the second Sex and the City movie, you know your favorite foursome of ladies might have overstayed their welcome. What was once a fairly relatable story (minus a few Samantha story lines - I was always a Miranda fan) became a fashion show cheese fest. But like most fans I'll be first in line to seeSex and the City 8: The Golden Years where Manolo Blahniks are replaced with house slippers in a quest to conquer the fashion of old age.

The New Age of Summer Television

Summer used to be a time when major networks laid to rest some of their most needless shows.  But over the last decade cable channels have presented a new style of television programming; one that takes advantage of the hot summer months and gives audiences what they want most: big stars, edgy stories and less time commitment for actors and viewers alike.

The movie begins with a flashback to Manhattan in the late 80’s where we are given a glimpse of how Carrie met her soul mates. Up first is Charlotte, then Maranda, and finally, the promiscuous Samantha. Although serious fans of the series will question this order thanks to the first two seasons of the show where it is eluded that Charlotte was the last addition to the group, it did provide a few short laughs.

In the summer of 2000, the Wayans brothers brought Scary Movie to the big screen. Tapped as an all-out raunchy spoof of all the horror films that had recently been released, the film promised laughs and jabs, proving that in the world of spoof comedy, no one is safe. Thankfully, the film delivered as it swept opening weekend records for an R-rated film and went on to accumulate well over $100 million. However, like all good things in showbiz, they never know when to stop.
