Interview: Sam Rockwell, Mike White: Gentlemen Broncos

On one side of the line we have Sam Rockwell, a man whose name is notorious for cultish films - and one that I have been dying to interview since I began this site. Moone and CHoke are his natural cup of tea, and his turn as a tranny sci-fi hero in Jared Hess' most recent comedy Gentlemen Broncos is no different. On the other side of the line we have Mike White, a behind-the-scenes man who opted to step in from of the frame for Hess and his cleverly constructed character Dusty. Many may recognize him from his participation in 'The Amazing Race,' but during this interview, he is all actor! Together they unite to provide an interview that was not only intriguing, but ridiculously funny.

Gentlemen Broncos

score:
C
Director:
Jared Hess
Cast:
Michael Angarano, Sam Rockwell, Jemaine Clement, Jennifer Coolidge
Running Time:
90
Rated:
PG-13
Author(s):
Jared and Jerusha Hess have dry senses of humor. They are the masterminds behind the cult favorite Napoleon Dynamite, and they are heading back to the big screen to reproduce its success with Gentleman Broncos. The film, which tells the story of a loner who has his sci-fi novel stolen and published by his favorite author, sounds good on paper. However, the final result doesn't fare quite as expected, leaving much to be desired in all facets of the feature.

G-Force

score:

Director:
Hoyt Yeatman
Cast:
Zack Galifianakis, Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Penelope Cruz
Running Time:
90
Rated:
PG
Author(s):
These days, we have little idea as to what the government is using in order to get past security systems and international borders. Because of this, the plot that surrounds Disney's newest thrill ride, G-Force, isn't too far of a stretch. Okay, maybe it is. But you have to admit, the idea that Guinea pigs can talk, operate and complete top-secret missions is neither clever nor original; yet somehow, it is still kinda cool. Throw in a guy like Zack Galifianakis leading the charge and you have yourself one hell of an adventure.

Choke

Over the years, novelist Chuck Palahniuk has received vast acclaim for his creative, artistic yet psychotic work. After the success of Fight Club, which stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, more Palahniuk novels were sure to be made into feature films. However, no one could have guessed that the next film would be Choke.

Snow Angels

score:
C
Director:
David Gordon Green
Cast:
Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, Michael Angarano
Running Time:
106
Rated:
R
Though it possesses a strong sense of depth and characterization, Snow Angels ultimately proved to be too slow and blotchy to keep the attention of its viewers. Plagued by an uneventful and slow moving script, the film loses its audience, never reaching a fully fledged climax and ultimately disappointing all who have waited so long to see this supposed darling.
