The Runaways

The Runaways SXSW Red Carpet: The Runaways

With the festival almost over, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning opted to make a stop in Austin, celebrating the release of their indie biopic, The Runaways. To kick start the success, the film screened at the prestigious Paramount Theater to over 1,000 eagerly awaiting ticket holders - many of which ahd been lined up for hours by the time the two starlets hit the red carpet. Joining them was director Floria Sigismondi, the real Cherie Currie, and the alive and kicking Kim Fowley.

Kim Fowley: Discovered Original 'Runaways'

In terms of the real 'Runaways,' Kim Fowley was as pivotal to their success as the parents who banned their music. He was the iconic producer in his day, and still writes and preforms to this day. We were fortunate enough to get a few moments alone (yes, we took the risk), with Kim before the film screened at SXSW, and I must say that he is by far the most interesting interview I have ever done.

I learned some music history from The Runaways. Before seeing the film, I thought that the girls all found one another, made their own music, and created their own fame. Instead, a man named Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon) messed with and controlled their world. He had them in the palm of his hands, and did what he wanted, whenever he liked.
