Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert 3D (2008)
By Stephen Davis
Director: Bruce Hendricks
Cast: Miley Cyrus
Running Time: 82 minutes
Rated: G
Release: August 19, 2008
The Plot:
Just last year, Disney sensation Miley Cyrus embarked on a co-headlining tour with her alter-ego, Hannah Montana. The response was outrageous as her tour became the hottest ticket ever on Ticketmaster and continued to sell out well into 2008. Now, for the first time ever, the concert that rocked the nation is coming out on home video in a special 3D format that is sure to please even the most die-hard fans.
The Movie:
While I may know every word to Miley Cyrus' 'See You Again' and could probably recognize the beat to Hannah Montana's 'Best of Both Worlds,' I can honestly say that I don't consider myself a fan of either. I didn't stand in line for concert tickets when she came to my hometown and I have never purchased one of her albums. However, after watching this film, I must admit that I now fully understand the hype that has surrounded this girl for the last few years.

As the film starts out, audience members are taken behind the scenes as Miley Cyrus begins to practice her show. Though there never seems to be any intense practicing, the show's creator and choreographer regularly comment that Miley is the hardest working of anyone on the stage. Then, after a few short segments, the film quickly takes you to the live show as we get to see millions of fans gawk at the very site of the teen sensation.

Then the show starts and audience members get to see the wonderful Hannah Montana take to the stage in Cyrus' first of two acts. Though nothing stellar comes from these tracks, I will give credit to the editors for their clever interlocking of ‘backstage access' material and live performances. Meshing the two really allows for the audience to stay entertained and not feel as if they are watching music video after music video.

Then, after a quick wardrobe change and a small filler spot by the rising band known as the Jonas Brothers, Cyrus reappears as herself, and to this the audience goes nuts! Now, for someone like me who has never seen an episode of Hannah Montana and only catches glimpses of Cyrus on the radio, this half of the show was much more entertaining as I got to hear songs that I recognized and embarrassingly could sing along to.

But, just like the show, the concert film had to wrap up somewhere. Luckily, viewers were blessed with the same exit that concert attendees got as she closed alongside herself with 'Best of Both Worlds,' the best way to describe this amazing experience of seeing a young idol both on the stage and behind the scenes.

The Extras:
2D Version of the Film: While the film was shown in theaters as a 3D picture, the box only contains four pairs of glasses. Luckily, the film is also available in 2D, allowing more fun for everyone!

Bonus Songs (6:19): Here audiences are given two bonus tracks, one from the Jonas Brothers and one by Miley Cyrus. Though I thought the songs were good, neither was anything extras special.

Sing Along with the Movie (25:55): This bonus feature allows the viewers to sing along with their favorite pop star on select songs. Though not needed for those that already known the words, it is a good excuse to sing along or even learn the mumbled lyrics.

The Ultimate Personal Tour (11:24): This 'behind-the-scenes' feature takes you backstage for a day on tour with Miley Cyrus. Though a little long, I must admit that it was thoroughly entertaining to see what all went into making the most popular tour ever happen.

The Verdict:
While Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert 3D is a pretty generic concert film, I must give it props for its adrenaline and excitement. Not to mention the whole 3D aspect, the amazing audio and the brilliantly comprised special features; thus making this disc one of the most complete Blu-Ray experiences to date.
