But in due time, the clues are matched up as the pair realize that they are not fighting one criminal but rather four in the Penguin, the Riddler, the Joker and Catwoman. The Movie: While Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale have opened the world of Batman and Gotham City to a much broader audience, Batman: The Movie allows audience members to relive the film that started the franchise back in 1966. Sparking a phenomenon that turned the entertainment world upside down, Batman: The Movie forever changed the perception that people had on comic books.
With that said, I must admit that this film is not for everyone. Though I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see the 'old-school' effects mixed with the “Holy Halloween Batman!” quotes from Robin, only those that understand the time and the meaning of the film will be able to enjoy it for what it is – not what it isn't.
Additionally, fans get the opportunity to see Batman and Robin face off against their four most popular villains, the Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman; all of whom have come together in a plot to take over the entire world. |

The Extras: Batman: A Dynamic Legacy (28:29): Batman has been around for over forty years, and a lot has gone on within the franchise. Here, we get a glimpse as to why the characters and film became so popular and just how big Batman truly is.
Caped Crusaders: A Heroes Tribute (12:29): Adam West and Burt Ward were not household names at the time of the theatrical release for this film. This feature investigates just how they, and their supporting cast of good guys, landed the now coveted roles.
Gotham City's Most Wanted (15:57): While the good guys were relatively unknown, the villains were all recognizable faces. Here, we get to see just how each role was cast and the importance of the Penguin in the overall story.
2001 Feature (16:47): This feature, shot in 2001, dissects the film and its elements, attempting to discover just how and why the franchise became such an iconic pop sensation that has survived the test of time. |

The Verdict: While The Dark Knight continues to broaden the 'Batman' fan base, it is always nice to go back and see where it all started. Now, with an upgraded Blu-Ray edition of Batman: The Movie, you get to see just how and why the Caped Crusader and his sidekick became an overnight sensation. Sure the lines are cheesy and the acting is over the top, but that is what makes the film so fun and addicting. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride, loving everything that the movie has, and not rejecting it for what it doesn't. |
