NBC Finally Pulls Plug on Prime Suspect

We all say this coming.  After announcing their mid-season schedule yesterday afternoon, without their stuggling freshman drama Prime Suspect, NBC had some explaining to do.

Today the opted to explain.

While they aren't officially 'cancelling' the show, they will shut down production next week after work on the show's thirteenth epsisode raps.  Word is that cast and crew were notified that the show had been cancelled; however, studio executives continue to say that they are still exploring options for the show.  So hypothetically the show could still return for say another thirteen episodes next season. But don't count on it.

'Prime Suspect' stars Maria Bello as a tough-as-nails cop in New York City's homicide department.  The show was well received by both critics and audiences but never could get the following required to ensure a full season order.  Ratings have been a struggle since the premiere, when the show posted the worst numbers for an NBC premiere in the history of viewer tracking.
