And that’s how I ended up writing for College Movie Review…Oh, I’m sorry, I have this terrible habit of telling stories in a non linear fashion. I blame this entirely on Christopher Nolan. Well I guess I’ll jump back to the beginning then.
When I was 6 years old, I was sitting entirely too close to the TV and flipping quickly through the channels. I suddenly came across a movie where a man was smoking a cigarette and shoveling something bloody into the ocean. Then, all of a sudden, a massive shark exploded out of the water. That’s the first time, that I can recall, when I experienced the incredible power of film. I couldn’t even take a bath without being terrified of Jaws coming to get me, much less go anywhere near the ocean during our family vacation to California.
Let’s fast forward a decade and I’m filming my first film in high school with a bunch of friends. It’s a murder mystery and everything from the costumes to the cameras is borrowed. Get in my phone booth and let’s jump forward in time a little more. I’m graduating from UT Austin and I’ve finally figured out what I want to do with my life; write,….whether it’s articles or screenplays, it doesn’t really matter, I simply must write. So during my job hunt, I came across a posting by Stephen concerning a feature writer opening on the site. I replied and he offered me a shot to join his team.
My favorite movies include Jaws, Batman (1989), Fight Club, Batman Begins, Memento, Hot Fuzz, Se7en, Shaun of the Dead, and this list could just keep going so I’ll stop there. If you want to hire me or date me…or both, please send any and all inquiries and fan mail to my boss, stephen@collegemoviereview.com.
