  • The Dictator (Movie Reviews)

    The film tells the story of General Aladeen (Cohen), a dictator who thinks he rules his kingdom with an iron fist, when actually the entire country knows him to be an evil, bumbling moron. (Sound familiar?) He comes to the United States to make a speech to the UN regarding his nation of Wadiya’s weapons of mass destruction. Upon arrival, he is double-crossed by his friend and colleague Tamir (Kingsley).

  • American Reunion (Movie Reviews)

    Following the old gang’s thirteen-year reunion (the high school slipped up and forgot the ten-year), American Reunion showcases the ups and downs that occur after high school.  Some marry and have kids, others move on to high-end careers, and the rest simply refuse to move on. Either way, the story is chock full of nostalgia that seems to drive the movie business these days. Who needs an original story line when you have out-dated, once popular catch phrases?

  • In Our Nature (SXSW 2012)

    In Our Nature follows Seth and Andie on a romantic weekend getaway to Seth’s father’s cabin.  His father and girlfriend unexpectedly interrupt the trip, opting to visit the cabin as well.  The film is a relatable tale of how a relationship between a father and son is affecting happiness in romantic courtships.

  • Last Days Here (Movie Reviews)

    Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. These are three things I know well, but for Bobby Liebling, lead singer of the band Pentagram, these things are life. Pentagram is a heavy metal band from the 1970s that for many reasons did not make it to major record label status. One of the main reasons was Bobby’s ego and his artistic inability to be happy with his music, his band, and, most importantly, himself.

  • Wikileaks: Secrets and Lies (SXSW 2012)

    The Guardian/Channel 4’s documentary Wikileaks: Secrets and Lies showcases the trying times of Jullian Assange, founder and editor-in-chief of Wikileaks.org. The documentary goes into specific detail about one leak in particular, from a Private serving in the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Friends With Kids (Movie Reviews)

    Friends with Kids is not unlike any other romantic comedy you happen across. It has all the regular what-have-you. The romance, the “I love this woman more than anything” cliché dialogue, it’s all there.  But hidden within the typical are a few original qualities, like genuine heart and good acting, both of which save it.

    David Wain strikes again! This time in the form of a romantic comedy that centers on George and Linda (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston), a Manhattan couple who is forced to leave their luxury ‘studio’ apartment due to job woes. They head to Atlanta to stay with George’s brother in hopes for employments.  After hours of driving the duo find themselves reserving a room at a kitschy, southern commune with mega-hippies.

    Carrie Preston's That's What She Said premiered last month at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.  We were on hand for its world unveiling, meeting the cast as they walked the red carpet.  We got to speak with director Preston and stars Alia Shawkat and Anne Heche about the raunchy female element in the film, and just what its like being in Sundance.

  • Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie (Sundance 2012)

    It is 11:30 at night and I am sitting in a theater surrounded by drunk 20-somethings and 50-year-old women who have no idea what they are about to see. At promptly 11:45 the film begins and for the next 92 minutes, the audience is barraged with dead-pan stares, shit-eating grins, stupid songs, poop jokes, and awkward father/son moments.
