Micael Mirza
Like many college students, I don't have a lot of time to watch movies. So when I do get the opportunity I seem to always head straight for the blockbusters. I would say I'm a fairly simple moviegoer. I am easily excited when it comes to the newest, big –budget releases and enjoy watching A-list actors in leading roles. I'm not a big fan indie movies, but I do enjoy a good one every now and then. My favorite film of all time is, without question, Jurassic Park, and my favorite actor is Al Pacino. For the most part, if a movie has a lot of action, drama, and suspense, then you’ll find me waiting in line with the masses!

  • To the Arctic: 3D - An IMAX Experience (Movie Reviews)

    When I was younger, I remember my parents taking me to the IMAX to watch movies like To the Arctic 3D.  You know, the ones that hold the attention as an elementary school adolescent but are honestly nothing more than a museum theater filler.   Sadly, this adventure documentary fails in its mission to entertain as it becomes bogged down in its central message.

  • Red Carpet: Safety Not Guaranteed: SXSW Film Festival 2012 (SXSW 2012, Interviews)

    An interesting newspaper ad about time travel sparked the unique indie film Safety Not Guaranteed. The film screened at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival where we were granted a spot on the red carpet to speak to the likes of Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson and others about the film, its 'hipster' appeal, and just how much fun they had on set.

  • The Raid: Redemption (SXSW 2012, Movie Reviews)

    The plot is simple: a SWAT team sets out to arrest the city's most violent and controlling drug lord.  During their raid, the team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs. The team must fight their way up fifteen floors to capture their objective or a violent and relentless death is awaiting them.

  • Waiting for Lightening (SXSW 2012)

    When you hear about a film that centers on a dude who jumps over the Great Wall of China on a skateboard then you should probably go check it out. Waiting for Lightning tells the compelling story of Danny Way, one of the world’s best pro skateboarders, and his efforts of jumping the Great Wall.

  • Decoding Deepak (SXSW 2012)

    When I first heard of Decoding Deepak, I was intrigued to see  what story director Gotham Chopra would tell about his father.  Deepak Chopra is an inspirational leader to many people, but his personal life has been kept out of the public eye for years.  This film sheds some light on the man himself, giving us a true glimpse inside the life of someone who inspirers many.

  • The Last Fall (SXSW 2012)

    The Last Fall tells the story of Kyle Bishop, a relatively young NFL player who has just been cut from the team. The film goes on to share the harsh realities a player like Kyle faces as he must deal with life outside the grid iron, and it's not all that it's hyped up to be.

    I find it difficult to give a film an extremely low grade because I know the time and effort that went into making it.  That being said, I'm having a difficult time finding anything positive to say about Tim Sutton's Pavilion, a film that I did not care for whatsoever.

  • Red Carpet: The Raid: Redemption: SXSW Film Festival 2012 (Interviews)

    Pitting a group of elite cops against the city's ultimate crime lord is nothing new.  Throw in a 30 story building and the non-stop presence of high stakes martial arts action and The Raid: Redemption becomes quite unique.  At its recent showing at the SXSW Film Festival we got a spot on the red carpet where we learned about the film, as well as the potential for a well-earned sequel.
