Katie Scott
With a passion for a film and an interest in writing, I have dreamed of becoming a film critic ever since high school. It doesn't concern me when people say film criticism is only a hobby and not a job; I'm in love. Watching films is like a sport for me; I check out the stats beforehand, pick a team to root for at the box office each weekend, and analyze the moves on screen. Good or bad, seeing a film is exhilarating both physically and mentally. Talking and writing about the film afterwards only enhances the experience. I find nothing more exciting than discussing the politics and inside workings of the film industry. My thirst for knowledge includes film history, film festival research, and directing styles. Don't ask me what my favorite movie is. That's like trying to pick a favorite child- I love them each separately. I'll give any genre a try, and I usually get candy with popcorn. I can't imagine my life without film and hope I never have to. That's why I continue to support the film industry. My only complaint is that I was not alive to see movies like Some Like It Hot, The Graduate, and Raging Bull on the big screen. I write because I can, but I watch movies because it's in my blood.

    With a story that has as much going on as The Help, it’s important to cultivate characters individually while allowing the narrative to flourish. My main issue with Tate Taylor’s The Help was that it had some great acting and moving scenes, all of which was mostly overshadowed by melodramatic fluff.

    It’s not everyday that I’m pleasantly surprised by a movie. I had my doubts going into Friends with Benefits after the recent release of No Strings Attached,another film that has pretty much the same plotline. However, I fully admit thatFriends with Benefits won me over with its smart script and genuinely interesting and likable characters.

    A well-known pastor finds himself engaged in a conversation with an anti-religion activist. The pastor accidentally fires a bullet into his opponent’s head. Carl, a recent convert to the church, is with the pastor, and is a witness to the entire event. Ultimately, Carl finds himself caught up in a crazy mishap where he must explain his own innocence.

    The thing about Elizabeth Halsey is she’s not really a bad teacher, she’s just a bitch. That’s her, plain and simple, without even the slightest bit of remorse for any of her horrible antics. Take into account that you have to sit through 92 minutes of her messed up life and what you’ve got is a pretty awkward movie.

    It was Matthew Modine’s fake British accent, the story’s extremely odd script, all the annoying music and the unnecessary dirty remarks that had me hating this film. Frenemy made it very hard for the audience to connect to whatever message it was intending to make.

    I’ve been through high school and went to prom, and all I can tell you is that the dance is great but mostly overrated. Disney’s Prom it’s no different. The movie creates a fantasy world full of squeaky-clean teenagers whose biggest fear is not having the perfect night, a bit cliché to say the least.
