The Whistleblower
Filled to the brim with intense action and fear for the unknown, Larysa Kondracki's The Whistleblower is a remarkable film that showcases the extraordinary talent of star Rachel Weisz.
When Nebraska cop Kathryn Bolkovac (Weisz) accepts a position with the UN as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia, Bolkovac expects the job to be relatively light. Soon after her arrival, she uncovers a deadly sex ring that is threatening the lives of hundreds of young women. Willing to risk her life to save that of others, Bolkovac soon finds herself in the middle of an international conspiracy with literally nowhere to turn.
I can honestly say that I didn't once look at my watch or phone during this two-hour feature. I often found myself leaning forward in my seat as the film took me on a journey filled with anxiety, suspense, and deep, raw emotion.
Though venturing into realms that we wish were not true, the film sticks to its authentic nature, forcing you to stomach the reality of this 'inspired by true events' story. It’s a harsh realization to come to, but at the end of the day you can't help but appreciate the validity of it all.
I was a bit disappointed that the only special feature offered on this Blu-Ray disc was a feature about the real Kathryn Bolkovac, but then again, with a film as sturdy as this, there isn't much need for flair.
