I remember playing with my Robocop action figures as a young boy. I think that all boys at one point in time have watched at least one of the Robocop movie, and if they haven't then they are missing out. This being said, I was only a year old when the first film hit theaters, and seven when the third, and last, movie was made. The Robocop Trilogy on Blu-Ray is a cool set to watch, simply for the fact that it brought back memories of how the story entertained me for hours during my youthful days.
Detroit - in the future - is crime ridden and run by a massive company. The company has developed a huge crime fighting robot, which unfortunately develops a rather dangerous glitch. In an effort to save their public image, the group behind the malfunctioning machine take a recently murdered cop's body and reconstruct it within a steel shell. This was the day that Robocop was born.
After a successful deployment of the Robocop Law Enforcement unit, OCP sees its goal of urban pacification creeping closer and closer. But as this develops, a new narcotic known as "Nuke" invades the streets. As this menace grows to such a strength that it threatens the power of Murphy, OCP attempts to replicate the success of the first unit. The experiment proves to be a bust until Dr. Faxx, scientist straying away from OCP's path, uses Robocop's biggest enemy Kane as the new subject for the new, and improved Robocop 2 project.
The mega corporation Omni Consumer Products is still bent on creating their pet project, Delta City, to replace the rotting city of Detroit. Unfortunately, the inhabitants of the area have no intention of abandoning their homes simply for desires of the company. To this end, OCP have decided to force them to leave by employing a ruthless mercenary army to attack and harass them. An underground resistance begins and in this fight, Robocop must decide where his loyalties lie.
Though the films are over 20 years old, the Blu-Ray release adds a new element to the timeless adventures of Robocop. While the better picture does show how old most of the movies really are, it is a huge step in the right direction when compared to watching them in standard definition.
Most of the action in the movies is basic when it comes to the equivalent films of our time as explosions, guns, bullets, and futuristic crime fighting is really all your going to find in all three movies. The acting is decent, but one must remember that Robocop was never made to win an award.
Robocop was an introduction for me into the world of action adventure. If you are a true fan of the hero or the movies in genreal, this Blu-Ray package is a must have. Nowhere else can you get all three films in one stop, and unlike many other Blu-Ray releases, these simply must be seen with the power of HD.
