Review: Hubble

Score:B

Cast:Leonardo DiCaprio

Running Time:44 Minutes

Rated:G

The Hubble Space Telescope is something I learned about when I was a kid. Knowing mostly the name and not its function, I'm glad that Hubble could expand my understanding of the telescope's use even if it only went skin deep.

Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film is all about the visuals. There's a lot of rich history here that was interesting to listen to while marveling at the amazing accompanying images.

I could've done without Leo's narration with his dramatizing script. Within the dialogue, it was as if absolutely everything was the world's most amazing thing, which got distracting instead of enlightening.

The short 44 minute runtime really doesn't allow much of an education or insight on the Hubble Space Telescope. A tighter script could've fixed this, but it was clear the film was more about the visual element than the educational experience.

The DVD does talk more about the IMAX Hubble 3D experience that you don't get with your television at home, so it basically answered the question: why was this film released on DVD when it was meant to be seen on an enormous screen?

Hubble is a small delight in the interest of science. I have an innate fascination with space that helped my experience with this film, but most anyone should enjoy looking at the images even if the knowledge you gain won't feel like enough.
