The Help

Set in the 1960s South and featuring a stellar all-female cast, Tate Taylor's The Help is easily one of the biggest and best surprises to hit theaters in 2011.

Telling the story of how an unlikely friendship spawns into a courageous writing project, the film effectively mixes drama and comedy to craft an unforgettable story that bridges the racial divide that had handicapped our country for centuries.

The film features a fascinating cast led by Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.  Both women create memorable characters through their comedic timing and emotional dramatic turns.  Together they are a force to be reckoned with, though they do get a run for their money from the quickly rising Jessica Chasten.

The Blu-Ray disc features some great special features, including a deleted scenes montage, a music video from Mary J. Blige, a making of feature and a DVD copy of the film.

While The Help is definitely targeted towards women, men shouldn't be secluded from the formula as the story will appeal to both sexes.  And with Christmas right around the corner, this two disc set would make a great gift for yourself or anyone else on your list!
