Drive
In Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive Ryan Gosling plays a Hollywood stunt driver by day who moonlights for criminals during the night. Things get a little complicated when he falls for his neighbor Irene, played flawlessly by Carey Mulligan. When a drive goes wrong our leading man finds himself in reverse as he attempts to thwart those creeping on his tail.
Drive is a unique story that works well on paper. However, when brought into the scope of reality it does little to impress. Granted it features a wealth of brilliant performance (most notably by stars Ryan Gosling and Albert Brooks), but the film falters after its almost too impressive start.
A director's interview and four separate featurettes compliment the film on this action-packed Blu-Ray disc, but none of them make up for the lack of intensity that is Drive. The first twenty minutes were killer as you could literally cut the tension with a knife. But with nowhere left to go the film runs out of fuel, pulling to the curb while the rest of us sit and wait for assistance to arrive.
